WHY I QUIT ACTING

She is one of the most talented and pretty actresses to have come out of the Nigerian movie industry.
Liz Benson rode the movie industry from the 90s like a colossus.

Having featured in countless of movies, the beautiful thespian and mother was one of those that made the Nollywood brand what it is today. Now a minister of God and married to Bishop Great Ameye of Freedom Family Assembly in 2009, Liz spoke to tribune on her new world of reaching souls for God, meeting her hubby and her new movie project.

How is Liz Benson-Ameye doing?

To God be the Glory. My husband has made the home comfortable for me. But the joy of people coming to you and saying pastor this is what is going on, this is what is happening and I counsel them with the word of God and they put it to practise. Oh my God, it gives me joy! And I tell them when you are doing well, when you are prospering, when you have answers to questions, I’m filled with joy. I’m fulfilled serving people and changing lives. Apart from these when you are filled with God and God is working in your life and you are in total obedience to God your maker, the assurance in heaven is something you can’t quantify. For me, I’m very comfortable with it.

Did you ever imagine being a pastor’s wife?

I tell you what? No one knows what tomorrow holds for him or her. I carried the heart of someone that wants to serve God but I never thought it will turn out this way. In 2001, I was in a thanksgiving service at Faith Foundation Church, made a testimony and I left although I had the mind of a minister of the gospel then. Bishop Sam Amaga and his wife came to my house one day and said, ‘Do you know there is a call of God in your life?’ I looked at them and responded, ‘God has made those he wants to use and I don’t think I’m part of them.’ I found out later that many of the servants of God that God wants to use never said I want to be this, I want to be that.

But they just find out that the more you love God, the more you get closer to him, God will want to use you and qualify you for his work. And for someone like me, you just find out that God moves you from place to place. I was just preaching in places like Allen Avenue back then. Two ladies saw me then and bore witness of my early days preaching around the place. One of them who acted in Twinkle sometime ago reminded me when she saw me at the airport sometime ago. She said she remembered that I came to her shop at Emporium Plaza at Allen, Ikeja to preach to her customers. So I used to do that a lot in those days when God started with me.

So how did you meet your husband, Bishop Ameye?

God did it. It was by divine arrangement. God was speaking through many people just like he used the donkey in the Bible. God used different witnesses to guide me. I was there waiting and he was there also waiting. I never expected such. And even after we met and he proposed, I still was running (She laughs). I still was running and where I was running to, a woman of God stopped me and asked me where I was running to. ‘You are running from your husband?’ The things of God eh, they are such that if you run from it, it doesn’t make it go away. When God takes a hold of you and you run away from it a million times, he will still ask you to do the assignment. The calling of God is such that you will have to surrender and all that.

How fulfilling are you now compared to your days as an actress?

I can’t put it in a box. I can’t really describe how it feels now but it is one of the most fulfilling times of my life. Being available to God, to humanity and doing something that is touching lives. In one way or another, you are investing in the lives of people and seeing that effect on them is most fulfilling. Doing what pleases your maker is fulfilling both to you and God. You may not have the billions but God has his own reward system and it surpasses the way of the world. God is most gracious and most sufficient.

Did you ever see yourself different from being a star actress?

Let me put it this way, a lot see the other side of me as a celebrity, star actress but two people that I call friends knew that I was always close to God. They knew Liz Benson as that kind of a person. In all the parties, I always go out and excuse myself to pray. We gather here, I live whatever we are doing to pray. So, it’s been like that for me. I know it couldn’t go on for a very long time. I had to do things my own way not conforming to their standards.

I think that was why my friends saw me a bit strange because I couldn‘t do certain things and fit into some area of our activities. And there are so many of us like that. There are a lot of people who are hiding under the cover of activities, showbiz and all that but they know that they have a personal relationship with God and are hiding this. But I know God will catch up with them the way He did to me.

Between yesterday’s Nollywood and today’s Nollywood, how will you rate it?

We now have the wherewithal, the financial wherewithal; some of the equipment we have now we never had before. When I look at the directing, even the editing, I feel that a thorough job is done. The directors are doing well. In terms of movie production, there is still a lot of infrastructure that we don’t have yet.

What attracted you to be part of the Living Funeral movie?

The movie is about breast cancer and it is a disease that its awareness has not reached home yet. I have been in a situation where the people are very religious and they talk about which side of the bed they slept last night. And I called someone, ‘let them check her blood pressure. It was 200 over! I told her, mama what you need is rest.’ Another woman came to me and she had pain in her breast. Immediately, I swung into action and this was before I became involved in this project. I took her to the teaching hospital so that they could find out what was wrong with her.

I told her not to deceive them and tell them exactly what was wrong with her. And they operated on her and now she is living well. She came in about three years ago to thank me. ‘Mama I thank God for you oh. Ignorance fit kill me person oh.’ If not that I was involved in her life, maybe we will be saying something else. So it’s not just preaching the word, preaching the word, preaching the word.

But being able to reach out to people and save lives. And things like this movie project, Living Funeral, are also a means by which I can reach people and impact lives. So I’ve not gone out of acting completely. It’s just that when you have a ministry, we are all gifted in different ways and when things like this come. It is something that makes me to do a lot of good to my fellow brethren and women especially.

So when situations like this happen it is not only the patient or victim of cancer that suffers it but the whole family, the whole community. So, I’m here to promote a worthy cause. If I say something here, I mean it and when my assistance is needed to propagate a just cause, I will gladly do.

When it comes to your movies what are your fond memories?

I always have the movies that I fancy based on experience but it is the viewer that can judge that because they all have their favourite. But for me, every production brings its own challenges that come with it. I deal with them in their own way. I can’t place a hand. But if I want to take into account, Living Funeral is it because I’m doing something as a minister of the gospel that projects my faith and tells a good moral story. I was moved and shaken by the movie. Some of the lines of the scripts are killing. I can’t even place what it is about the movie but the story line is touching and the movie has fetched us eight nominations in Africa Magic Video Choice Awards AMVCA including Liz Benson-Ameye being nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama.

So viewers should go to www.amvcaawards.com/nomineeslist to vote us in. I just thank God for giving me the grace to act in such movies. Life itself has its challenges. Even if there are some hurdles there, you will always survive them. I have so much work to do in God’s vineyard. To God be the glory, Now I can only appear in movies that have to do with humanity and preach good tidings. For me, the moral standard is what I deal in right now.

The best, depth and height of every human being and endeavour are all in the Bible. Even the most spoken words in history are taken from the Word of God. For me it is God because movie roles, boyfriend, girlfriend, romance and all that are no longer for me. The most recent one that we are projecting is in the bible. That’s why I’m saying that it just have to be God standard or nothing.

What are the things people don’t know about Liz Ameye?

I don’t know, it is for the people to say not me. I think one of the issues is being able to deal with issue the way it comes and allow God to have control of your life.

A LITERATE DOG

Akpos, the son of a very rich man goes off to college. Half way through the semester, having foolishly squandered all his money he calls home.
"Father" he says, "You won't believe what modern education is developing! They actually have a program here that will teach our dog, Lucky, how to talk!"
"That's amazing," his father says. "How do I get Lucky in that program?"
"Just send him down here with #1000,000" Akpos says "and I'll get him in the course."
So, his father sent the dog and #1000,000. About two-thirds of the way through the semester, the money again runs out. The boy calls home.
"So how's Lucky doing son?" his father asks.
"Awesome, Father, he's talking up a storm," he says, "but you just won't believe this again - they've had such good results they have started to teach the animals how to read!"
"Read!?" says his father, "No kidding! How do we get Lucky in that program?"
"Just send #2000,000, I'll get him in the class."
The money promptly arrives. But our Akpos has a problem. At the end of the year, his father will find out the dog can neither talk, nor read. So he shot the dog. When he arrives home at the end of the year, his father is all excited.
"Where's Lucky? I just can't wait to see him read something and talk!"
"Father" the boy says, "I have bad news. Yesterday morning, just before we left to drive home, Lucky was in the living room, kicked back in the recliner, reading The Economic Times, like he usually does. Then Lucky turned to me and asked, so, is your father still messing around with that little pretty girl who lives down the street?"
The father went white and exclaimed, " What? I hope you shot that son of a bitch before he talks to your Mother!"
"I sure did, Father!"
"That's my boy!"
The kid went on to law school, and now serves as a Member of Parliament.

Here we go again! Members of the opposition party are fighting tooth and nail again to give GEJ and members of his cabinet a bad name in whatever means they find possible.


The report that the House of Representatives passed a resolution to probe an alleged spending of N10bn by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, to charter and maintain a jet for her personal use, only makes some of us wonder at the intents and purpose of such probe and investigations and why it is coming this time.

Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke has a track record free of corruption even before she became the minister of petroleum resources. Obviously, her position is envied by many, warranting the barrage of attacks from disgruntled politicians and charlatans who will stop at nothing to tarnish the image of Diezani Allison Madueke on fictitious and baseless allegations.

Evidently, most of the probes and investigations undertaken in the past by the House of Representatives usually is premeditated to coerce their chosen 'victim' to water their garden or face the legislative
guillotine. A case in point is the Arumma Oteh saga, where members of the house committee allegedly asked for bribe.

We shouldn't forget so soon the accusation by Ms Oteh about the avaricious actions of corrupt committee officials who were assigned to probe her. This, as is the usual trend, is another avenue for some members of the house to 'beg' the minister for money.

The opposition and some bias News Publishers should refrain from feeding the public with false information.

The All Progressives Congress, APC lawmaker from Agege Federal Constituency in Lagos State and the sponsor of the motion, Mr. Samuel Adejare argued that, at a time of dwindling resources, it was a "breach of public trust" and "impudence" for a government official to fly "all over the world, obviously for leisure." This clearly points to an undertone of campaign of calumny garnished to unjustly bad-name and nail the minister of petroleum.

It is definitely a gang up by the opposition party against the government and to tarnish the image of Jonathan's cabinet because of their selfish interests come 2015.

Many on-watchers also believe that the recent call by the minister for the privitazation of the country's refineries points to the reason why opposition is calling for her head. She is entitled to make recommendations to the government on how best to improve the sector.

After all, if government cannot manage our refineries as to make it function optimally, then there should be no politically-motivated bickering about her recommendation for the privatization of the
sector.

Obviously, under the current administration of President Jonathan, true democracy has been allowed to flourish with its immense benefits, giving Nigerians all liberties, a window of opportunity that the opposition and mischief makers have unfortunately used so inappropriately to launch all manner of attacks on the president and members of his cabinet.

APC and its members are out to destabilize the government. Like what one of the readers on PUNCH Newspaper said,'' Where have the National Assembly been all these years? But now that election is around the corner, everything happening there (national assembly) seem to be accusations and counter accusations, a new strategy they have employed to execute 2015 elections against their major opponent, the PDP.

Nigerians please shine your eyes well to distinguish false allegations from reality to avoid the mistake of making wrong choice of our politicians.

According to Kwam 1 , March 3, 2014, was a very significant day in the history of his life as he was born 57 years ago, and in 1957.

How happy are you celebrating 57?
I am very happy for so many reasons. First, I was born on March 3, 1957, and I am 57 today. That alone is a big honour. Born 1957 and clocking 57, you can understand what I mean.

Looking back 10 years ago, what were the things you’re doing then that you can’t do again?
So many things. Even the way you react to situations, your utterances and everything you do must be very different because 57 is not just one age by the corner. It’s a big milestone. And you wouldn’t like to see yourself as a failure. If you’re unable to pack yourself together at 57, then you’re as good as a goner.

What’s the best way to attain success and sustain it because not everybody that starts it well is able to go far, what’s the secret?
Definitely, you get to understand every step that you take and judge it yourself. That will lead you to the next step you’re going to take. If you take a wrong step, definitely you know you have to correct it in your next move. If you have taken the right step, you know that you have to sustain it. So, it is called checks and balances. You don’t act like a hero or a super human being. There is no super human being anywhere. If you’re able to look at every step taken, everything you lay your hands on and you make a critical assessment of them and you identify where you’re to make necessary correction and you do it, you will be a super hero.

How do you feel giving the hands of three of your daughters out in marriage almost at the same time?
I feel great. I am happy and fulfilled. I feel extremely joyful and great. I am so happy because it coincided with an unforgettable date, the date that probably comes once in one’s life time. 3-3-57 can’t come twice. I was born on March 3, 1957, which is 57 years ago. I gave out three of my daughters’ hands in marriage. That has been a very fantastic record so far. It’s a thing of joy. Idayat, who is a councilor at Lagos East Local Government was the first to wed on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 followed by Ameenat on Thursday, March 6. Then, Sekinat rounded it off on Sunday, March 9, 2014. They are all graduates. I trained them very well. I am very happy about that.

You planned it that way or it was just a coincidence?
Honestly, it wasn’t planned that way. We’re only planning one, then the second person said she was ready as well. Then, the third also said she was ready. I was expecting the third daughter to say no but she said she was also ready. May be, they all felt like so far this man has time now, why don’t we do everything at the same time, And the truth is that if we didn’t do everything now, my busy schedule would overtake them. I don’t know when next we could have done all the weddings. Election is coming up in Ekiti very soon, the same thing in Osun. It’s very obvious that I will be very much busy. By the time we’re out of that, we’re moving up to very many other states for the campaign for general elections. I am connected to so many things here and there. I will also travel out of the country on a musical tour. I may probably not have chance until maybe the end of 2015.

How many children do you have?
Whatever the number of children I may have, I have a lot of graduates among my children. Whatever it is, I am overjoyed about them because I have been able to do to my children what probably many people don’t expect a musician could have done for his children. I know many of Chief Ebenezer Obey’s children that are well read, I know many of King Sunny Ade’s children that attended good schools and so on. So, I am glad to be among those musicians that have tried for their children in terms of education. So, no matter the number of children I have, I thank God I have been able to send them to good schools. They attend some of the very best schools, home and abroad. But unfortunately, not that my parents didn’t want to send me to school but I lost my dad when that opportunity could have been there for me. And I can’t blame God for what happened. It wasn’t my father that was tired of life and killed himself. He never wanted to run away from his responsibilities. But I thank God, I have been able to do better things for myself. I have been able to speak to you people in a language that many people feel it’s only when you go to school that you can learn that. If I do not have a university certificate, the truth of it is that I am okay. And I am grateful to God for the little I have been able to put together for myself. Wickedness! Pastor uses machete on wife for missing church Service in Ogun State

Yesterday, a Pastor, Samuel Daniel in prison for using a machete on his wife.

He was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and providing false information, which is punishable under Sections 338 and 192 criminal code Vol 1 law of Ogun State, 2006.

The accused, who was a Pastor with an Apostolic Church in Ode Remo area of the state, reportedly went to his wife’s place of work at Itori village in Owode-Egba on December 10, 2013 and used the machete on her for abandoning church programmes.

He was reported to have taken his wife to the hospital and reported the case at Owode-Egba Police Station, but lied that two unknown persons attacked his wife.

After an investigation, he was reportedly arrested by the Police and charged to court. At the last adjourned date, Daniel pleaded not guilty while his counsel, Joy Augustine, filled a bail application arguing that the offence is bailable.

Presiding Magistrate, E. J. Ojikutu granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned till May 26, while the accused, who appeared to have suffered partial stroke, remain in prison.

Thetuanya football match was meant to mark Ghana's independence, unfortunately, Vicker got injured during the first ten minutes of the game and was rested for remainder of the match.

WHAT!! A BEAUTIFUL KENYAN INFECTED OVER 325 MEN WITH HIV/AIDS

A female student at Kabarak University in Nakuru, Kenya has confessed she deliberately infected over 325 people with HIV.The girl, 19, whose name is still unknown, says she has set her target for at least 2,000 men acting in revenge after she was infected by a man at a party which she attended about a year back.
According to International Business Times....The girl allegedly contacted Kenyan Scandals on Facebook and claimed she had something to confess.
After she was assured her identity was going to be protected (the Kenyan Daily Post, however, published a picture from her Facebook profile along with the  article) she wrote:

 I'm 19 and a 2nd year here at Kubarak Uni. I joined this Uni a virgin though I've had boyfriends before, my parents were so strict so having s*x was never on my mind

"Sep 22nd 2013 is a day I''ll never forget, we went clubbing in town and got drunk with some senior students then went back hostels for party round two".

Father kills 17 year boy he Found On Bed With his 16yr old daughter! [PHOTO]

A  father who found a 17 year old boy inside his daughter's room around 2:20am fatally shot and killed him

The father, who was not identified, was notified by one of his children that there was someone in his 16-year-old daughter's room.
He crept into the room and found her in bed with the boy. 
The father who had a gun then told the boy to identify himself but his daughter reportedly told her father that she did not know the teen and that the two were not in bed.

The father said he told the teen not to move, but reportedly saw the teen reach for something, at which point police say the father opened fire. The teen did not have a gun. His daughter later confessed that she did indeed know the teen.

"You just feel terrible for the families,You just kind of reflect on both of these families’ lives have changed forever." one neighbor told the station.....

had a baby.

baby was born with no ears.
When they arrived home from the hospital, the parents invited Akpos' family
to come over and see their
new baby.
Akpos' parents were very
afraid their son would have a silly words to
say about the baby. So, Akpos' dad had a long talk with Akpos
before going to the
neighbors house. He said, "Now, son, that poor
baby was born
without any ears. I want you to be on your best
behaviour and not say one word about his ears, or
I'm really going to beat you when we
get back home."
"I promise not to mention his ears
at all," said Akpos. At the neighbour's house, Akpos
leaned over the crib and touched the baby's
hand. He looked at
his mother and said,
"Oh, what a beautiful little baby!"
The mother, who had braced herself for Akpos'
comment, was pleasantly surprised and said, "Thank you

much, Akpos."
Akpos then continued, "This baby has perfect little
hands and
perfect little feet. Why, just look at his pretty little
eyes! Did
his doctor say he can see clearly?" The mother who was
a bit surprised,
replied;
"Why, yes ... his doctor said he has a good vision,

ask?"
